According to the AgenceEcofin website on November 25, Cameroon will become the third largest cotton producer in the African Financial Community (CFA) region in 2023/2024, after Mali and Benin, and more than Burkina Faso. Despite the poor forecast of cotton production in 2024/2025, Cameroon will still remain the top three in the region. According to the latest report released on November 19 by the Regional Plan for Comprehensive Production of Cotton in Africa (PR-PICA), Cameroon's seed cotton output in 2024/2025 is expected to reach 360000 tons, 8.5% less than the 390000 tons output in the previous quarter.
In addition, the cotton planting area in Cameroon will decrease by 5.1% to 220000 hectares in 2024/2025. It is worth noting that, according to the data compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, it is estimated that as of September 30, more than 230000 hectares of cultivated land in Cameroon had been affected by floods.
