Urgently summon new designers to join in and lead the cycle fashion
Redress Design Competition, the world's leading sustainable fashion design competition, announced that its 2015 annual competition has now officially opened. Redress, an environmental and fashion non-governmental organization, and CCIDA, the main sponsor of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, jointly issued an invitation to designers. From now on to March 14, 2025, designers with four years of professional experience or less can participate in this prestigious design competition.

The advent of 2025 is an important milestone of the Redress Design Competition, which means that the global competition has ushered in the 15th (formerly known as Ecochic Design Competition). However, this eye-catching anniversary celebration has brought out a serious fact that cannot be ignored - the scale of fashion production continues to grow, consuming a lot of earth resources, causing waste accumulation, and further threatening the sustainability of the ecological environment.
The Redress Design Competition aims to educate and inspire emerging designers, encourage them to adopt circular design strategies, and enable them to play an active role in reducing the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. It is estimated that 80% of the impact of products on the environment has been finalized at the design stage [1]. Therefore, designers have a significant influence in the process of promoting the circular economy in the fashion industry, especially in the garment production market in Asia.
The global market value of the fashion industry in 2023 was 1.7 trillion euros, and it is estimated that it will maintain an annual growth rate of 7.4% by 2030 [2]. Unless the industry adopts a circular strategy, its environmental impact will further intensify.
Through a powerful education platform, previous contestant networks, competition awards and global exposure opportunities, Redress Design Contest provides designers with a comprehensive knowledge system and support system to promote the future development of the fashion industry.
A change is urgently needed
Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Redress, Dr. Christina Dean stressed: "The fashion industry is the main driver of global pollution and waste. If we do not act decisively, the consequences will be unbearable. In order to meet this challenge, we must promote circular fashion, develop a comprehensive transformation plan for the fashion industry, so that the industry can continue to flourish. Redress Headquartered in Hong Kong, we are committed to redefining Asian and global fashion and paving the way for more responsible development and a renewable future through cooperation with innovative brands and outstanding designers. "
In 2021, the fashion industry is estimated to account for 1.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Assuming that the clothing industry grows in a conventional way, it is estimated that by 2030, its emissions will increase by 42% [3]. This shows that the industry urgently needs to transform and develop towards a circular economy.
Focus on Asia's global influence
In order to celebrate the 15th session of the competition, Redress will hold activities in Shanghai and Hong Kong in February 2025. Shanghai is one of the world's major fashion hubs, while Hong Kong is the birthplace of the Redress Design Competition. Each event will bring together carefully invited fashion industry leaders and relevant professionals to discuss the profound connection and future development between Chinese culture, fashion, recycling and sustainability.
This will be an excellent platform to promote innovative thinking and exchange, and provide new perspectives and inspiration for the transformation of the global fashion industry. Through these activities, participants will have the opportunity to understand in depth how Asia plays an increasingly important role in the global fashion industry and jointly promote the sustainable development of the future.
This initiative aims to promote dialogue on sustainability in the region's vibrant fashion communities and expand the impact of the program in Asia, which accounts for about 60% of global clothing and textile exports. [4]
Zeng Zhaoxue, a cultural and creative industry commissioner, said: "Redress Design Competition is an important event in the fashion industry, which shows outstanding talents from all over the world and brings them together in Hong Kong for cultural and commercial exchanges. Collaboration is a key link to inspire everyone to practice a new era of sustainable development and resonate globally. The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Division is pleased to support this project to consolidate Hong Kong as a vibrant fashion and innovation hub. "
